Incredible Exam Results! (August 2014):

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we received the most incredible set of exam results in our last two sets (check out the results page). In the ISTD tap, modern and jazz set EVERY SINGLE student received a distinction! WOW! Additionally 12 out of the 23 results achieved marks in the 90% range. This really is an incredible achievement and quite rare within the dance world. A huge well done to all of our students. These results were then followed by another tremendous set where 11 students received a distinction and 8 students a merit in the RAD ballet exams. Incredible! A huge congratulations to all involved. 


Goodbye & Good Luck! (July 2014):

At the end of our summer term we said a big goodbye to some of our older students who are moving on to pastures new. Congratulations to Izzy Ripley who has been awarded a place to study at the London Contemporary Dance School (The Place), Georgia Harwood who moves on to study dance at Falmouth University and Mac Palima who will be studying dance at De Montfort University. We also said goodbye to Senior Company members Jade Woodstock and Celia Honan, who are taking a year out before moving onto University. Well done also to Charlotte Wareham who has received a scholarship to continue her studies at Tring Park and also won the Bird Performing Arts summer school scholarship.

Festival Success For Company Students (February/March 2014):

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Company students for achieveing excellent marks and placings at both Exeter and Torbay Dance Festivals. Below is a picture of Francesca Filpi, First Artist of the Royal Ballet presenting our senior modern group with their trophy for achieving 4th place in the overall Exeter Festival Gala Perrformance. Well done!


New Year Sale - Starting January 2014! 

Fancy trying a new class or starting dance for the first time? As part of our new year's resolution, Charles Academy are offering a free '3 week taster' promotion until the end of March 2014 on selected classes. The promotion is open to new starters to the school or current students wanting to try out a new class in addition to their current class. Classes that included in the promotion are: Contemporary & Lyrical Dance, Junior Musical Theatre, Intermediate Modern, Intermediate Tap, Grade 8 Ballet, Intermediate Ballet, Advanced 1 Ballet, Grade 5 Modern, Grade 1 Ballet and Grade 3 Tap. Come and try a new class for 3 weeks for free, and we hope we'll persuade you to sign up for the term!


New Adult Dance Lessons - Starting January 2014! 

We are introducing two new classes to the timetable starting in January 2014: Adult Tap and Adult Ballet/Modern Jazz. Come and join the fun!



Christmas Disco & Lights Parade (December 2013):

RAD Summer School Success for Megan and Rebecca (August 2013):

Well done to Rebecca Bonsor and Megan Raymond who both attended the 2013 Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Summer School. Pictured below is Rebecca receiving the special commendation she was awarded, and Megan during the certificate presentation - well done girls!



Student Of The Year Award 2013! (June 2013):

A big well done to Zoe Burrow who was selected to win the Charles Academy 'Student of The Year 2013 Trophy' and presented with it at this year's showcase. Zoe has worked consistently hard throughout the year, always with a fantastic positive and enthusiastic attitude. We are all very proud of you Zoe, well done :)


The Energy Express! (June 2013):

Places at Top Vocational Colleges For Senior Company Students (March 2013):

Many congratulations to 2 of our Senior Company members who have succesfully auditioned and gained places at full-time vocational colleges to train professionally...Chris Jones has been awarded a place at Performers College, Essex, and Charlotte Wareham has been awarded a place at Tring Park School of Performing Arts, Hertfordshire. We are really pleased for these 2 students, that have trained, prepared and worked really hard with us for many years to secure these highly sought-after places, well done! Congratulations also to Charlotte who was awarded 2nd place and an amazing 89 marks in her lyrical modern solo at the recent Plymouth Festival.



New Pre-School Class (December 2012):

We are starting a new pre-school class from January 2013 - for ages 3-5 years, teaching the basics of ballet & modern (Thursday's Crediton Town Hall - 3:30-4:05pm, £4 per class paid on a termly basis). Great for children to help develop confidence, balance, coordination, musicality and social skills. Please contact Amy on 07920180707 to reserve a place.


Christmas Ballet Promotion (December 2012):

Between December - February 2013  we are offering a series of 3 free ballet lessons to any new student in any ballet grade. Come along and learn about this classical genre, free of charge - hopefully we may encourage you to join the class on a regular basis!


Bryony Comes Home From World Tap Championships With A Bronze Medal! (December 2012):

HUGE congratulations go to Bryony Tayler who has come home from the 2012 World Tap Championships in Germany, with a bronze medal! Bryony represented the UK with the elite group 'Tap Attack'. The 'formation group' came 3rd and 'adult group' 4th. Outstanding work Bryony - We are all very proud of you!

Excellent Results at North Devon Festival  (October 2012):

Congratulations to Tallulah Barker who won the 'Overall Under 12 Yrs Novice Dancer' trophy at North Devon Performing Arts Festival. Tallulah also won her modern solo section. Well done also to Jade Woodstock & Charlotte Wareham who came 3rd in their Modern Duet Under 20yrs, and to Charlotte who came 2nd in tap and 4th in ballet, modern and lyrical. Well done girls!

Charles Academy Celebrates Outstanding Exam Results (August 2012):

In the last 3 sets of exams we ran over the summer term 2012 (2 ISTD, 1 RAD), our students have achieved outstanding results; In total 37 distinctions and 21 merits!!!  Wow, super work students! Check out the 'Exam Results' page for a full breakdown of all our results to date.


Bryony To Represent the UK in World Tap Championships (July 2012):

Huge congratulations to pupil Bryony Tayler who has been selected to represent the UK at the World Tap Championships in Germany. Bryony was awarded a place in the national, elite group 'Tap Attack Company' following tough auditions earlier in the year. Fantastic news Bryony!


Charlotte Dances in Giselle With the English Youth Ballet (May 2012):

Well done to Charlotte Wareham who was selected to perform in the English Youth Ballet's Production of Giselle at the Palace Theatre, Paignton! Charlotte represented herself and the School beautifully in this production - well done!

Royal Ballet JA Success For Megan (June 2011):

We are delighted for Megan Raymond (who is in G2 ballet and a member of the School's Junior Company) to hear that she has been successful in gaining a place in the Royal Ballet's Junior Associates after auditioning a few months ago! Well done Megan - fantastic news!


We are off to London! (June 2011):

Congratulations to the members of the 'Electronic Technology' modern group who competed in the regional level of the All England dance competition and were awarded an 'honours' mark for their performance. The group were placed 3rd and selected to move on and compete at the National level of the competition in London in the summer. Wow - well done dancers!!!

Be a JA For The Day! (Feb 2011):

Well done to Megan Raymond (Grade 1 Ballet) who spent the morning with the Royal Ballet learning about their Junior Associates Scheme. Megan took part in a 2 hour class, where the children worked on core strength exercises, turning, jumping, balancing, stretching and much more!

Massive congratulations go to Bryony Tayler, who has just passed her ISTD Advanced 1 Tap Exam with 91% distinction - an outstanding result! Well done Bryony. Bryony also recently danced at the Northcott's 'Exe-Factor' and received great comments about her tap solo from the judges.

ELF Charity Christmas Fair (Nov 2010):

Sunday 5th December - ELF (Exeter Leukhaemia Fund) Christmas Charity Fair - 10am-4pm running at both The Old Town Hall, Crediton and Moose Hall. Craft stalls, food and drink, kid's activities, music and Christmas entertainment!....We raised over £1000 for E.L.F - wow! Well done everyone! :)

Performing Arts Festival Success (Oct 2010):

Many congratulations to all the students that competed at North Devon Performing Arts Festival over the October Half Term. You all danced beautifully and should be very proud of yourselves! The results were fantastic. A special mention should be given to Charlotte Wareham who won 'Most Promising Female Dancer of The Festival 20 yrs Under' and to Hazel Sturgess and Charlotte Wareham for winning the 'Best Duet of The Festival' when they scored the highest mark of the entire week. Congratulations also to Sarah Dickinson, Venezia Wilbourne, Elizabeth Way, Georgia Harwood and Jade Woodstock who all achieved fantastic marks and placings. We are very proud of you all! Company Students Dance at the Eden Project (Sept 2010):

The Company students were invited to perform at Cornwall's Eden Project in the 2010 RELAYS Festival of Extreme Sports and Performing Arts. Thank you to all those who helped and took part.


Summer School Success! (Aug 2010):

We had 2 great summer schools over the holidays...the juniors enjoyed a 4 day musical theatre course and treated us to a performance of highlights from the Lion King. The 'Advanced Level Summer School' followed the juniors, where company students worked for a week to learn two new, exciting pieces of group choreography ready to be performed later this year.


Fantastic Exam Results (July 2010):

Congratulations to all those that took ISTD exams and RAD major exams in the summer term - another set of outstanding marks (all distinctions (A) and merits (B)!) Well done to all our students for their hard work.


Debut! (June 2010):

Our first annual dance show 'Debut' will be taking place at Exeter's Barnfield Theatre on Sunday 20th June 2010 (matinee 1:30pm and eve performance 7pm). Tickets can be purchased directly from the school. All students will be involved in the tech/dress rehearsal on Sunday 13th June.


MOVE IT! (March 2010):

A group of us are heading off to London's Olympia Centre this Sunday 14th March, to take part in the UK's biggest dance exhibition MOVE IT! Students have signed up for classes in Contemporary Jazz, Hip Hop with ZooNation, Contemporary Ballet, Tap, Musical Theatre, Lindy Hop and Lyrical Hip-Hop. We're looking forward to a really great day!


ISTD Graded Exams - Superb Results! (Feb 2010):

Our first set of exam students excelled themselves, receiving an outstanding set of marks (average mark 85%). The graded exams were taken in ISTD tap and modern, with marks as high as 92%! Well done for all your hard work during the coaching sessions - very well deserved.


ISTD Major Exams (Feb 2010):

A special mention must also go to Bryony Tayler and Sarah Dickinson who both took their ISTD Intermediate Modern exam prior to Christmas. Both girls are currently training to become dance teachers, and achieved a grade A (distinction) in this very high level exam. Their marks were outstanding - Sarah received 93% and Bryony 90%. Their dedication and hard work really paid off, and we are very proud of them. Well done to both of you and good luck with the rest of your teacher training.

Panto and Royal Ballet Fun For George & Elizabeth! (Dec 2009):

If you enjoy a good christmas panto, go and support your fellow students; George & Elizabeth Way who are currently appearing in the ELTC pantomime Aladdin at Exeter's Barnfield Theatre. Elizabeth also recently spent a day dancing with the Royal Ballet learning about their Junior Associate scheme.


'U Dance 4 Devon' - Northcott Theatre (Feb 2010):

We are pleased to announce that the Junior & Senior Company, have been awarded a place in the first ever county-wide dance showcase: 'U Dance 4 Devon', to be held at Exeter's Northcott Theatre on Sunday 21st March 2010. We look forward to watching their performance.

Break-dance Workshop - with Olivia from Just 4 Funk (Jan 2010):

Many thanks to Olivia from Just4Funk who introduced us to 'breakin' in a brilliant workshop on Saturday 3rd October. Eighteen of you took part and learnt the basics of top-rock, footwork, back spins and freezes! We had great fun, thanks Olivia!






'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' Trip & Workshop - with Gemma Fuller (currently appearing in the UK tour of the hit West End show)(Jan 2010):

On Saturday 23rd January a group of us took a trip up to the Bristol Hippodrome to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and we were very fortunate to be given a back stage tour by Gemma (who was appearing in the performance). The children learnt about the mechanics of the flying car, the props and wigs, and got a first hand sneak preview of how it must feel to perform on such a large stage and in a West End show! The trip was then followed by a great workshop by Gemma on the Sunday, where we learnt a samba routine directly from the show. What a fantastic, fun and energetic weekend we had! Thank you Gemma for giving up your time to be with us, we all really enjoyed it!
